The world of work has changed. Over the past five years, teams have become more global, office life has shifted, and the moments when people actually come together have taken on a greater sense of purpose.
At ALS Private, we have seen how travel is no longer incidental to the job. Company off-sites are a deliberate investment in employees. The standard for how they are designed has shifted too; time is valued so much more, and curating an experience has become central to each trip. By putting the experience first, off-sites and retreats now receive the same level of consideration once reserved for high-end leisure travel
Accessibility remains an important priority. With individuals flying in from multiple locations, a destination needs to work logistically without sacrificing atmosphere. A property that offers complete privacy and an exceptional setting, while sitting within reach of a major international airport, strikes the ideal balance of seclusion and seamlessness.
With teams now globally based, the potential for travel has expanded. Accessibility is no longer defined by a short flight; it means being reachable from multiple locations. Global business hubs such as Singapore, London, New York, and Paris are chosen for their exceptional properties and practical connectivity. Other companies seek more remote locations, where access is still achievable but the sense of escape is greater.

From London, we love to incorporate a Belmond train journey into itineraries, turning a longer transfer into an experience in its own right. With routes spanning the south of England and up into Scotland, properties such as the Fife Arms and The Newt in Somerset now have an access point that feels nothing like a standard transfer.
We have seen large, traditional conference venues give way to exclusive-use properties. Requests for private chalets, villas, and estates where a group can exist entirely on its own terms, away from the interruptions and pressures of daily working life, have increased steadily. The environment needs to mirror the purpose of the trip and encourage people to think and engage differently. Removed from the usual surroundings, with a different rhythm to the day and a more considered use of space, conversations tend to go further. Decisions that might have taken weeks of back-and-forth can find resolution in a few days of genuine focus.

This is also influencing how agendas are structured. Time together is curated rather than simply scheduled. Whilst focused work remains very much the end goal, it no longer fills every hour. An itinerary is built with an understanding of the value of space: room for both focused discussion and informal connection, where the moments between sessions are valued as much as the sessions themselves. Activities, where included, are deliberate and completely unique. Team building is formed around shared cultural immersion, dinners that are an experience and a celebration of the team. Every element must feel unexpected and outside of the ordinary, because many of the individuals travelling have themselves experienced the most remarkable journeys. It is our responsibility to surprise guests with experiences they did not anticipate.
The mountains consistently exceed expectations. For smaller groups, we love working with intimate boutique hotels of 30 to 40 rooms, such as Kristiania in Lech, somewhere that feels like a private residence, sitting somewhere between a chalet and a hotel. Conversations happen at dining tables, by fireplaces, and on terraces rather than in planned meetings. Taking over a property gives full creative control to execute a brief to exact specifications. With Lech just 90 minutes from Innsbruck, it is ideal. Chalets such as Arula or Chalet N are spacious enough to accommodate small teams or Directors in an eleveated Alpine setting without the loss or privacy.

We work alongside in-house events teams, PAs, and EAs who have a clear vision of what they want from a retreat. Our knowledge of destinations allows us to pair that intention with the right location. What is often harder to replicate is the layer of insight that comes from having been there. Knowing not just which destination works on paper, but which specific property will suit this particular group, at this particular moment, for this particular purpose.
That knowledge has been built through experience on the ground across dozens of destinations and client groups. It is what separates a well-planned trip from one that feels effortless, visible in the property secured before it reaches the open market, the activity that perfectly matches the group's dynamic, the transfer that runs without anyone noticing it had to be coordinated at all. Every detail is managed with discretion. The team is on the ground throughout, ensuring the experience flows from the moment of arrival to the final departure.
We love to challenge the idea of what a corporate retreat looks like, weaving in elements once reserved for leisure travel. Time together as a company is precious and it is also a moment for people to relax and reset, creating the conditions for clearer thinking, stronger relationships, and a sense that the time spent together actually meant something.
